Sometimes two is better than one. In this case, we're talking about pitchers. Williamston's Blaine Yates and Landon Gaddis combined for a complete-game shutout, leading Post 121 to a 1-0 victory over Rock Hill Post 34.
Williamston now leads the second-round, American Legion playoff series 1-0.
Blaine Yates toed the rubber first and hurled 2 innings while striking out 2 and giving up 1 hit. Landon Gaddis followed, and closed, pitching 5 innings while striking out 8 and giving up 3 hits.
"[Yates] was excellent. We used that opener strategy to just to shorten the game for him," said coach Matt Frazier. "He's thrived in that role for us this summer."
Post 121 took the lead in the fifth inning when Andrew Dent scored on a Peyton Nelson sacrifice fly.
"That kid on the mound is a college arm so it was kinda a pitcher's duel and we were able to scratch one," said Frazier.
Kinda indeed. Rock Hill's Peyton Reel threw 6 innings and only gave up 4 hits while striking out 4.
Williamston's Brady Jeffcoat rapped 2 singles.
Williamston will look to end the playoff series against Rock Hill Thursday night at Rock Hill.
