Blaine Yates left a big ol' peach-shaped zero in Gaffney's run column en route to a complete-game shutout, leading Williamston to victory 5-0 Monday night in Williamston.

Williamston now leads the opening-round, American Legion playoff series 1-0.

Yates only gave up 3 hits, all singles, and struck out 6.

"Blaine was really good," said coach Wade Padgett.

"That was the big thing. He filled up the zone, attacked 'em. We talked about that before the game ... attack 'em, stay pitch-efficient."

Post 121 got the scoring started in the bottom half of the first inning with a Chaz Knight groundout that scored Clay Alberson.

Williamston added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Dent singled in Peyton Nelson, and Gray Hollingsworth scored on an Eli Hudgins groundout.

"Probably the biggest point in the game was Andrew Dent ... had a 7-8-9 pitch at bat and he ended up getting a base hit through the right side for an RBI and we ended up scoring two that inning," said Padgett.

Two additional runs scored in the fifth. Harrison Crawford singled in Brady Jeffcoat and scored himself on Nelson's double.

Williamston will look to put Gaffney away as the series continues Tuesday night in Gaffney.
